NOTICE

TLD will be contacted for the assessment service by a senior management official within one of the operating units. TLD will then communicate the relevant information to The Language Specialist.

IRS LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES

To request a Language Assessment to be done for a potential or current employee, click here to download and print the assessment schedule form.

Using a 4-part assessment, TLD’s Language Specialist will perform an assessment of a given applicant’s fluency in a given language. The assessment will be administered by telephone and by facsimile.

Each assessment will not exceed one (1) hour. The assessment consists of four (4) parts:

  1. The ability to converse in a given language. (The TLD Language Specialist will converse with the applicant and exchange written materials for purposes of assessing his/her oral and written fluency.)
  2. The ability to write in a given language. (The TLD Language Specialist will fax the applicant a letter to be translated into English.)
  3. The ability to translate from the foreign language into English. (The TLD Language Specialist will provide the applicant a letter in the respective foreign language to be translated into English.)
  4. The ability to translate from English into the foreign language. (The TLD Language Specialist will provide the applicant a letter in English to be translated into the respective foreign language.)

When the applicant has finished the two written exercises, the exercises are faxed back to the TLD Language Specialist to be evaluated.

The Language Specialist will assess the applicant using a Language Skills Assessment Form (LSAF). Each candidate will be rated on a pass/fail basis for each of the 4 parts of the assessment. Each candidate will receive an overall pass/fail rating as well.

The Language Specialist will provide the LSAF, including recommendations and comments regarding employment to the IRS Project Manager within 24 hour of the assessment via facsimile and/or e-mail.
